Bury St. Edmunds Sub Aqua Club BSAC(1441)

How much does it cost????

Try dives are charged at £15 each and we can cater for individuals or several people at a time if needed. If you are interested in an experience for your club, give us a call and we will see what we can arrange. We try to be active in this to encourage diving within our local community.

Our club is formed on a non-profit making basis. You will need to join both our club and also our governing body, BSAC. These are charged on an annual basis.

Club Membership £90.00
BSAC Registration £47.00
--------
Total £137.00

Additionally, if you are taking instruction at the Ocean Diver level, there are some extra costs which need to be taken into consideration. These are Equipment hire and your training manual. If you already have some of your own equipment, it may be cheaper to hire specific equipment from the club on an individual basis. Training at a level other than Ocean Diver will also require a BSAC manual.

Club Equipment Hire £115.00
BSAC Training Manual £37.00
--------
Total £152.00

OTHER COSTS:-

The costs above are for all your pool and theory training. Once this has been completed, you will need to do a few sheltered water dives at one of our local inland dive sites. This is normally done over a couple of days but this will sometimes change with different levels of competance. There are a few additional costs which need to be planned for at this stage.

All our instruction is carried out by club instructors who train you without payment and volountarily. Due to this, it is normal for the candidates to either take the instructor to the dive sites or split the instructors travelling expenses between the candidates. The sites are not that far away so shouldn't be that much. Approximately £15 each visit.

The dive sites you will go to are run commercially and there is a small charge for entry into the sites. This can be partially offset by using your club membership card at one of the sites where we are entitled to a discount. Between £8-£10 each visit.

You will also need to either buy or hire a semi-dry wetsuit or drysuit. We class these items as personal items and it is impossible for the club to hold a stock of suits to fit everyone. Hire is approx £15 each visit or you can buy a suit from about £100 upwards.

The last item is air fills when required. You will have a club cylinder but when this has been used, will require refilling. We have a club compressor which you can use for £2.50 per fill or the alternative is filling at the dive sites and local shops who normally charge a little more.

Other comments:-
It can be quite expensive to start getting your kit together once you have been trained or even whilst training. With this in mind, you need to know that as other club members improve their skills and require different equipment, there is a never ending stream of second hand equipment for sale within the club. There are also other places to buy second hand kit which we can help and advise you with. Also, you can still hire individual bits of club kit when you need for £2.50 per item per day so don't worry too much about buying the expensive stuff straight away. Concentrate more on mask, fins, suit, boots and weight belt to get you going.
